An Introduction to Cody Mooney, CrossFit Athlete

CrossFit has a way of attracting athletes from different disciplines into its fold. And Cody Mooney is no exception. A basketball and football player in his younger years, Cody became a CrossFit convert when he reached college. Do you want to know more about Cody Mooney and his journey to the world of CrossFit? Continue reading and find out.

Life Before CrossFit

Cody Mooney was born and raised in a small town in York County, Maine. Similar to a lot of small-town young boys, he was quite energetic. His parents had their hands full with him and his sister as they were constantly running around the house barefoot.

Moreover, Cody also loved the outdoors and would normally find himself riding dirt bikes or snowmobiles depending on the season. He also played basketball and football when he was young.

Introduction to CrossFit

When he went to college at the University of Maine, he was introduced to CrossFit. Since he couldn’t perform the workouts in the gym of the university, Cody worked out at the Portland, Maine gym of Misfit Athletics.

Cody and CrossFit Competitions

Cody first joined the CrossFit Open competition in 2013 when he was still 19 years old. While he placed 791st on his first foray in the CrossFit Open, it was a solid performance considering how young he was at the time.

The following year, Cody had a significant improvement as he placed 380th overall in the Open competition. This was a huge jump of 411 slots. It also gave him a slot at the 2014 North East Regionals where he placed 14th overall.

Cody continued to improve in 2015 when he had another impressive performance in the Open competition where he placed 91st overall. He also qualified for the Eastern Regionals where he became a part of the top 10 finishers. In the same year, Cody was a part of Team Swagith Moondini, which finished 9th overall in the team series.

Even as he qualified for the regionals in 2016, 2017 was another breakout year for Cody. While he wasn’t able to stand on the podium for the 2017 regionals when he copped 4th place, it earned him a ticket to the biggest stage in the CrossFit world, the CrossFit Games.

CrossFit Games

Cody Mooney placed 17th during his first stint at the CrossFit Games 2017. It was an impressive debit considering that he had a torn shoulder labrum during the competitions. He delayed the surgery until after all the competitions.

A year later, Cody finished 6th in the individual competitions of the regionals. In 2019, Cody returned to the CrossFit Games as part of CrossFit Krypton. Prior to competing in the 2019 games, the team won the Wodapalooza and Granite Games.

Even as looking good matters, being healthy matters more to Cody. This is the reason why he works out with the goal of becoming fit and healthy.

#2: If you know something good, you should spread the word

Cody considers it his responsibility to tell people about the right things to do in life. This is particularly true when it comes to nutrition. At this point, he always encourages people to eat properly.

While telling people about the right things to do, it is also important to be cautious about it. Some people may not take suggestions positively. Due to this, he avoids putting other people down when educating them.

Instead of putting other people down, Cody cites the good things they can get from a good diet. He makes them realize that they can do things better than what they’re currently doing.
