In June of 2017, Ryan Elrod failed a drug test at the Atlantic Regional competition. After finishing 5th, he would have qualified for the CrossFit Games had he not tested positive for a prescription fertility medication. He was taking the medication in order to help his wife get pregnant, but had not been taking it for many months prior to being tested.
