Let’s go over all of the qualities in detail that make these sneakers a saving grace for runners everywhere.

Upper

The Brooks Glycerin 17’s upper consists of a unique mesh that includes a double-jacquard mesh, which closely resembles a woven knit. The upper has been built to be like a sock and is seamless in which it provides the best comfort for your feet when wrapped in a secure and flexible manner.

The sneaker’s interior bootie constructions keep the wearer from experiencing discomfort and irritation, without cutting off the upper’s flexibility or ventilation. The tongue and the collar are well padded, and the padding gives the shoe a better supportive fit, while also preventing the ankles from feeling distressed by the impact of the ground.

The upper’s sides include the 3D Fit Print technology, where the synthetic prints help strengthen the sides of the shoes and offer extra structure to the upper. The Glycerin 17’s lacing system has been traditionally constructed and features eyelets that are incorporated into the upper, and semi-flat laces that provide a comfortable and firm fit.

Midsole

DNA LOFT technology is what the Glycerin 17’s midsole material comprises of, which is said to be the brand’s most softly cushioned midsole. This technology is a foam compound, which is aimed at providing exceptional cushioning, without any corresponding weight.

The foam’s responsive and thick nature gives it a bouncy and energized ride. At the top of the protective and soft midsole is a removable OrthoLite sock liner that provides an extra layer of comfort and cushioning, which makes the in-shoe feel as snuggly as possible. The sock liner also has antimicrobial and moisture-wicking properties, allowing your foot to live a healthy life.

Outsole

The Glycerin 17’s outsole is made with the same rubber compound as its predecessor. The reason why this is the case is that the rubber was incredibly resilient, showed exceptional performances on a number of surfaces and is also pretty durable.

There are seven deep horizontal flex grooves at the forefront of the outsole that allows the runner’s weight to be transferred with ease, which therefore allows the wearer to achieve the ideal heel-to-toe transition. The shoes’ lugs are discreet but are able to grip efficiently to flat surfaces.

The shallow lugs are also there around the midfoot and heel, whereas the outsole’s center area has no lugs. What this does is encourage a natural gait cycle, that also provides excellent traction that many runners are satisfied with.

Flexibility

The way shoe’s internal stretch bootie has been constructed in a way that not only grants excellent comfort but also enables the upper to move seamlessly with the foot, thereby providing unparalleled flexibility and moving of the foot without any restriction.

The outsole of the forefoot features 7 grooves that allow for a flexible, swift and natural toe-off movement and also a smooth gait cycle. There’s even a split up crash pad in the heel that provides flexibility during the gait cycle’s landing phase that helps soften the stride.

What do Customers Think About Them?

—>See More User Reviews and Ratings Here<—

“An amazing running shoe that’s one of the best I’ve ever tried. I run 50+ miles a week so need something with nice cushioning and support and these ones are awesome. No feet or shin injuries and I’ve been using them for years now.”

“Brooks shoes have always worked well for my feet—high arches and plantar fasciitis. These ones are no exception. A nice level of arch support but not too much to be uncomfortable, along with lots of cushioning for my sore feet.”

“I have lots of lower back issues so have to be super careful with the shoes that I wear. I’ve given others a try, but always end up going back to these ones.”

Are they Comfortable?

By far, the main contributing factor to the Glycerin 17’s comforts is its foamy, soft DNA LOFT midsole, which provides considerable underfoot cushioning throughout the ride. What’s more, is that the OrthoLite sock liner provides more cushioned support and softness to the runner and many runners are happy with its performance and inclusion.

Most of the runners agreed upon the Glycerin 17’s in-shoe feel, saying that the shoebox easily accommodated their foot, giving them a supportive and flexible fit. The inner sleeve doesn’t even cause irritation or blistering.

Runners of various foot sizes can surely find a pair that fits them. The available sizes include 2E-Wide and D-Medium for men and B-Medium, AA-Narrow and D-Wide for women.

What about Durability?

The Glycerin 17’s outsole is made from the same material as its predecessor since it’s known for being resilient in a plethora of circumstances. The outsole’s rubber carries onto the toe cap, which extends the midsole longevity a bit more.

The midsole is sturdy and thick enough not to be as quickly flattened as some IMEVA midsoles seen in road running shoes. In other words, it’ll take a long time for the Glycerin 17 to lose some of its cushions.

While the mesh material comprised of two-layers in the upper isn’t abrasion-resistant, its stretchy construction makes for a pretty good durable feel. This means that you can expect the Glycerin 17 to hold on for about 350 miles – that is if you don’t go off-road, which is where the mesh upper has a greater chance of wear and tear.

Price

When it comes to price, Glycerin isn’t exactly kind on our wallets. But the quality that it provides in terms of durability is worth the investment. If you’re not at all bothered by the fact that these precious little darlings at about the same cost as two pairs of mediocre running shoes, and are instead looking for a comfortable, supportive and energizing run experience, then who are we to stop you?

Pros

  • Protective
  • Durable
  • Versatile Design
  • Smooth heel-to-toe transaction
  • Good traction
  • Flexible and supportive fit
  • Breathable
  • Extremely comfortable
  • Removable OrthoLite sock liner
  • Super soft DNA LOFT midsole technology

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Colorways are less vibrant than how they appear in images, according to some consumers.

Can I Use the Brooks Glycerin Shoes for CrossFit?

A common question that people have is whether or not they can use running shoes like these ones for CrossFit. If you take a look around your box, or ask your trainer, you’ll find that there are a ton of options for CrossFit shoes. You can see everything from weightlifting shoes to barefoot or minimal shoes.

Most people end up using cross-trainers or a specialized CrossFit shoe like Nobulls, the Nike Metcons, or Reebok Nano series. That’s because a CrossFit WOD has a ton of different activities. Things like sprints, box jumps, rope climbs, and lifts. You need a versatile shoe that can meet the demands of all these things.

So, will the Brooks Glyercin work? Probably not, for two reasons.

The first reason is the 10 mm heel toe drop. You’ll want a shoe closer to 4-5 mm for this kind of workout in order to provide a more stable platform for squats or deadlifts. The other reason is that the mesh upper on the medial side will get torn up in no time during a rope climb.
