An Introduction to Elly Kabboord, CrossFit Athlete
For someone who loves the outdoors, it is understandable that Elly Kabboord chose to excel in cross-country racing. This love for nature eventually led her to the world of CrossFit where she gradually made a name for herself. Life Before CrossFit
A native of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Elly Kabboord, thought she would stay in Florida her whole life. She likes taking long walks on the beach. Elly also loves everything that involves sunshine and simply being outdoors.
Elly played different sports while she was studying at Cocoa Beach High School, including tennis and basketball. She was also into surfing and golf.
But, she excelled in running and cross country racing. In fact, she is a three-time cross country state champion. She also holds the record for the fourth-fastest 5k high school run in the state of Florida.
Elly continued to excel in track and cross country racing while at the University of Florida. She later shifted to half-Iron distance triathlons and Olympic distance competitions. Her accomplishments eventually led to her becoming a nominee for the March of Dimes Woman of the Year.

Being a competitive person, she plays sports at a high level. As a result, joining CrossFit comes naturally for Elly. In 2012, she joined her first open competition.
She was able to qualify for the South East Regionals and finished 35th overall in the individual women’s category. The following year, Elly improved her finish in the regionals to 23rd overall.
And in 2014, she was three slots shy of a top ten finish in the South East regionals. This was also the last time she competed as an individual since she joined CrossFit Mayhem the following year.
Elly Kabboord and CrossFit Mayhem
While she was still competing as an individual, Elly never really reached the big stage. But, this changed when she joined CrossFit Mayhem in 2015.
Her entry into the team started when she heard that Rich Froning was planning to set up a team. She thought it would be a cool idea if she can be a part of the team. She did not really think about it until her fiancé, now husband, Kyle got a job in Nashville, Tennessee.
During that time, she started searching for CrossFit gyms in the area and CrossFit Mayhem came out in the results. Elly decided to send an email to introduce herself and ask about the team. Rich emailed back saying that they were looking for people and would love to hook up with her.
Elly later received a call from the gym manager, Yvette Clark, who told her they would love for her to come over. Elly later moved to Tennessee to become a part of the team.
During her training, Elly learned about some weaknesses she had to work on. These weaknesses included her strength and gymnastic skills since she mainly had a running background. Even though her teammates worked on their own, they stepped up and helped her whenever she needed it.
During her stint with the team, CrossFit Mayhem ended up topping the Central regionals for three straight years from 2015 up to 2017.
The team also topped the team category of the CrossFit Games in 2015 and 2016. They also finished second in the 2018 version of the games.
Controversy and her Drug Suspension
While Elly Kabboord was on cloud nine following the victories of CrossFit Mayhem in several competitions, an issue came out in 2019. A drug test conducted during the Reykjavik CrossFit championship came out positive for a banned substance.
The positive result came as a surprise for Elly who has been going through drug tests since college. She also never takes any drugs that are not prescribed for her. Moreover, she does not do anything that will jeopardize the future of her teammates.
At this time, she was the team captain of CrossFit Mayhem Independence. While she filed an appeal letter, it was denied. In the end, Elly was suspended from participating in any CrossFit events until 2023.

Despite the slight bump in the road, Elly is keeping herself busy with her own sports performance clothing line, Elly K. She started the venture a couple of years ago and it offers fitness and active lifestyle apparel in the market.

Elly Kabboord started joining the open competitions in CrossFit way back in 2012. She also qualified for her first regional competition in the same year. While she wasn’t able to qualify as an individual for the CrossFit Games, she had her first podium finish in 2015 when she was a part of CrossFit Mayhem Freedom.
The following year, Elly’s team, CrossFit Mayhem, finished first in the games. In 2017, she once again stepped on the podium for a second-place finish with the same team.

Being a lifelong competitor, Elly Kabboord has a lot of experiences that any novice athlete may want to learn from. Due to this, Elly can impart bits of advice to anyone planning to enter the world of CrossFit.

#1: Be patient and work hard
If you’re new to the sport, you should be patient with yourself and put in the work to improve. Even elite athletes started at the bottom. They reached the level they are currently in through hard work.
You should also celebrate small victories and see them as improvements in your performance. For instance, when you make your first pull-up, you should pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
But, do not rest on your laurels and continue working until you reach the level you were aiming for in the first place.
#2: Bring a positive attitude
For Elly, attitude is one thing people tend to overlook while training. It is essential to avoid getting angry while training even though it’s quite easy to do this. It is especially true if you can’t perform an exercise properly.
Instead, you should treat each workout as an opportunity to make yourself better. Having a positive outlook when you enter the gym will allow you to enjoy yourself while working out.
#3: Be careful when taking supplements
This advice came after the issue Elly encountered in 2019. If you’re planning to take supplements to help you, you should make sure it does not contain any restricted substances. You should make sure to clear it with your doctor before you take it.
