Rich Froning Jr.: From Baseball to CrossFit
Rich Froning Jr. has been an active CrossFit athlete since 2010. For six years now, he has won numerous awards, both in the individual and team competitions. His individual competition lasted for about four years from 2010 to 2014. And since 2015 to present, this American athlete has been with a team joining and winning the CrossFit games. Before he joined CrossFit, Froning was a baseball player.
He was the second baseman during the all-region baseball competition back in high school. His same involvement with the sport gave this athlete a scholarship at the Walter State Community College after she graduated in 2005.
Not Just Baseball
Froning played football too. Not long after, decided to retire from playing baseball and started work at a fire department while he continued his studies at a Tennessee university.While he worked at the fire department, Froning got attracted to CrossFit where he later on became passionate with.
Began CrossFit in 2010
Then, in 2010, he started coaching in CrossFit and joining the competitions. And, though very famous in CrossFit, Froning is not following Zone diet or the Paleolithic diet. He does not do so because he firmly believes it is better that he listens to what his body needs.

Rich Froning Diet
Adhering to his self-planned diet, the former baseball player drinks only whole milk and eats peanut butter generously. In relation to this, Froning does not usually eat excessively. He tells people he’s training to eat clean (lots of lean meat and veggies), but he sometimes doesn’t take this advice himself!
Rather, he eats large amount of meals during the night and drinks protein shakes abundantly.

Awards won by Rich Froning
For half-a-decade of competition in CrossFit now, Froning has won various awards and titles already. He was a four-time champion at the regional finals in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
He was also a three-time champion at the open worldwide competitions for three consecutive years starting 2012 to 2014. Winning the competitions is not the only achievement Foning has over the years.
He has also gained a lot of remarkable sponsorships from famous labels such as Rogue Fitness, Oakley, and Reebok. Incidentally, in the beginning 2015, Reebok launched a new shoe designed partly by Froning, bearing a Bible scripture, Reebok CrossFit Competition 6:14, which was tattooed to his side.
Quite an impressive number of achievements, right? It’s quite reasonable to call him the fittest man on Earth!
Tips to Get Fit from Rich Froning Jr.
Froning wouldn’t have gotten such awards and reached success without the discipline he has strictly followed through the years. In a Men’s Journal article, 6 Tips to Take from CrossFit Champ Rich Froning, written by Marissa Stephenson, the athlete shared six great tips for the beginner CrossFit athletes to get and stay fit
First is by going through a bodyweight workout routine. Here, he shares his own routine of five rounds of 20 reps each of squats, pull-ups and pistols, and push-ups.
Second is to work out with friends who are willing to sacrifice with them.
Third is to never put any limit on what they can do.
The fourth tip is for one to redirect his attention when he feels like giving up already. In Foning’s case, he motivates himself thinking of his wife and daughter as his inspirations.
The fifth tip is that, make the training fun. One who finds fun in what he does will never think of giving up.

Rich Froning Workout Routine
You might want to know how this guy works out, in order to become the fittest man on Earth. Part of the secret is that he works hard at it, really, really hard. Over 7 days, he’ll have up to 18 different workouts. One in the AM, and 1-2 workouts in the PM.
As far as training is concerned, this CrossFit competitor works out several times in a day and opts not to take any rest day. He does not have any coach either to plan his every workout.
Here is just a sample of what a typical day could look like for training:
3 x power clean (205 lbs) EMOM for 10 minutes
Rest 5 minutes
- 15 min AMRAP
- 5 x pull-up
- 10 x push-up
- 15 x air (body weight) squat
- 5 rounds of -descending reps (10, 8, 6, 4, 2) of:
- AND descending reps (50, 40, 30, 20, 10) of: wall ball

Rich Froning and Steroids
There are some rumours circulating around on the Internet that the fittest man on Earth has used steroids to help him achieve this success. However, there is no evidence to support this and he has never been formally investigated for this by any organization.
There is also regular drug testing by the organizers of the CrossFit games, both in and out of competition. Although it’s not independently administered like some other professional sports, these results should be taken at their word.
Froning eats clean, trains harder than just about anybody and has the attitude and desire it takes to be a champion, so his success can probably be attributed to this!
