Pros of this Sticky Athletic Tape:

  • Can improve grip in things like pull-ups, kettlebell swings, jerks, snatches, etc.
  • Effective at preventing rips on the fingers and hands during Olympic lifts
  • Easy to use with no scissors. The serrated edges make it easy to rip with minimal effort

Cons of the Stickiest Tape for Skin:

  • Can be quite difficult to remove (the company says to do this in a hot shower), even when following the company’s instructions.

  • More expensive than other athletic tape
  • Must be applied when the skin is dry, and not already sweaty

What do People Think About Goat Tape?

—>Read More Customer Reviews on Amazon<—

“Awesome sticky tape that’s far better than the competition. Held up nicely for the abuse I put it through during a CrossFit bar workout. I’ll be buying another roll for sure when this stuff runs out.”

“Amazing tape for when you’re doing some serious lifting. It prevents tears, and also gives you a way better grip on the bar. Highly recommended for any people who do CrossFit, bodybuilding, weightlifting, etc. I always keep a roll of this, along with an exercise headband in my workout bag.”

“Perfect for wrapping the thumbs with—the stuff you can buy at the drugstore just doesn’t stick that well and is too stiff for this part of the body. It’s maybe the best tape for CrossFit you can buy in my opinion.”

How to Use Goat Tape CrossFit

Pay close attention to the areas on your hands or fingers that often rip when you’re lifting weights. Then apply some tape to that area, starting a bit below and going to slightly higher than that area. Apply tape before you start to work out because it can be more difficult to apply when the area is sweaty.

Depending on the area, you may want to get a workout partner to help you out with this. You should find that it’s easy to rip pieces off the roll due to the serrated edges.

To take it off, the company recommends peeling it off in a hot shower. You may still find it a little bit difficult to do though, and unfortunately we don’t have any tips for you besides shaving the area where you plan to put the tape. That way, at least you won’t rip out all your hair doing it and it’ll be less painful.

Can I Use Goat Tape for Rope Climbs?

Rope climbing is often a big part of a CrossFit workout and you’ll certainly see this exercise at the CrossFit Games. Technique is a huge factor on how well you do at this, and having good technique can certainly alleviate your shins and hands getting torn up.

However, when you’re learning, it can be a little bit tricky to avoid this. If your entire shins are bruised, battered and bleeding, then you may want to consider a CrossFit Shin Guard.

But, if only a certain area gets ripped up, then you’ll want to consider some athletic tape like this stuff. Instead of having to buy shin protectors and carry around another piece of gear, you could even just a little bit of tape on the problem spot before you head to the box before a workout.

Just remember, it’s one of the stickiest tapes for skin, so you’ll want to shave any hair off of that spot first.

Are there Other Alternatives for CrossFit Tape?

Besides Goat Tape, there are a number of other products you might want to consider, including other CrossFit tapes, along with WOD Wax that you apply directly to bar for much the same purpose: grip and hand protection. Check out some of them here:

Goat Tape vs Rock Tape: What’s the Deal?

If you’re looking for athletic tape, you’ll see both of these names at the top of your searches. What’s the difference between the two?

Basically, Goat Tape is designed to protect the hands and fingers from ripping and tearing during a workout. It can also help you to get better grip on the bar when your hands are sweaty.

Rock Tape is considered to be kinesiology tape, which helps to assist with injuries and conditions like Plantar Fasciitis, shin splints, knee pain, groin pulls, etc. It gives a little bit of extra support where it’s needed and can change how your body moves to relieve or prevent pain. It’s already cut into pre-sized pieces and is certainly not as sticky at Goat Tape.

To make matters slightly more confusing, Goat Tape also makes a kinesiology tape besides their original tape designed for CrossFit workouts. You can compare the two side by side here:

The Takeaway on Goat Tape, the World’s Stickiest Tape

If you’re looking for CrossFit Tape, then Goat Tape is certainly the best in the business. It’ll stay in place easily on your hands, provides a ton of grip, and best of all, does an excellent job at protecting your hands and fingers.

Sure, it’s a wee bit expensive, and also difficult to get off. But, the good stuff is far and above the rest of the competition that most people find these negatives easy enough to overcome.
