Is the Nike Flex Trainer Ideal for CrossFit?
Take a look around your CrossFit box or ask your trainer. You’ll find that there’s a huge variety of shoes on people’s feet, including barefoot shoes, cross-trainers, and weightlifting shoes!
However, most people stick with cross trainers, or CrossFit shoes like the Metcon 4, or Nano 9. This is because you can potentially encounter a huge variety of activities during even a normal WOD, including sprints, box jumps (see: best plyo boxes), kettle bells, weightlifting, rope climbs and more. Seriously, just about anything under the sun is possible.
So, you’ll want to find a pair of shoes that’s up to the challenge of being pretty good at a bunch of things. Will the Nike Flex Trainer 8 stand up to the test?
In our opinion, yes! It’s a nice all-round shoe that does a lot of things well. It has a ton of traction, is low enough for lifting, but flexible enough for sprinting and other cardio. Just about our only small complaint of this shoe for CrossFit is that it has a ton of mesh on the upper. This makes it very breathable, but it also means that the shoe is less durable for rope climbs.
Can I Run in the Nike Flex Cross Trainers?
Are you looking for a pair of shoes to run your next marathon in? Then the Nike Flex Trainers are probably not it! It’s not a fault of this specific shoe, it’s just that we don’t recommend trainers for this purpose. They are slightly too heavy and also have too low of a heel to toe differential.
Running shoes have a higher heel toe drop of close to 10 mm. They are also designed strictly for forward movement, and made from the lightest materials. This leaves your feet and legs feeling less fatigued by the end of a long run. If you want to see some of our top recommendations, you can check them out here:
