The Switch from Basketball
This might come as no surprise, but Lauren Fisher was top of the class at many sports before becoming the CrossFit legend she is today. One of her previous loves was basketball. And she also got into CrossFit to get her body more fit for her basketball passion. Besides basketball, she also kept busy in her early years performing in gymnastics, softball, soccer, swimming, and even running.
Her basketball performance was mainly developed at the St. Mary’s High School, California. She was a key part of the mythical National Championship team. When she was only 14, and her talent for basketball was fairly obvious to everyone, she decided to get involved in the CrossFit sport. She thought that this new sport was going to define her skills for basketball even more. But, little did she expect to become a first-class CrossFit competitor.
The first time she participated at CrossFit, she led her team to win two championships and a national title. With such a start, she had no problem qualifying as a CrossFit senior when she was only 18 years old. When she participated in the CrossFit Northern California Regionals, she won the 12th position.
In some cases, she competed against athletes that were much older than herself. Overall, Lil Fish participated four times at the CrossFit competitions: twice as a team member and twice as an individual competitor.
CrossFit Tips from Lauren Fischer
With such an impressive career that was developed at a very young age, Lauren Fisher has plenty of tips to offer the aspirants who want to walk the same path as she did.
VISUALIZE YOUR WORKOUT
Lauren Fisher declared more than once that she thinks “a good workout is 80% mental and 20% physical”. In other words, the secret of your success stays a lot more in your mind than in your body, and you shouldn’t neglect this aspect.
Always perform your exercising in your mind as you are doing them with your body. This tip will keep your motivation high, and your performance even higher. It will also help you never to give up because when you are visualizing your performance in your mind, you are also visualizing your potential success.
EAT A BALANCED DIET
Diet is essential for an athlete, and you can’t expect to reach a high level of performance with a poor diet. You should stay away from all junk food and try to eat a lot of protein, fiber, and raw fruits and veggies. Even if this is most likely not coming as a surprise for anyone, you should know that such rules are essential for someone who wants to reach the performance Lauren Fisher got to.
ALWAYS WORK MORE THAN OTHERS
Working towards your goals is your real chance of reaching them. Once you made up your mind about what you want to do, all you have left to do is go and get it. But to be the best at whatever you want to, you need to work a little more than the rest of your competitors. Push yourself to be better than yesterday and look at each day as a new opportunity to get where you want to be. This is the central part of every motivated mind, and Lauren Fisher has this mindset covered like a professional.
